JCC KEDEM – A Week before Purim


The week before Purim became a very intensive one for the JCC KEDEM. On March 16 a nice joint program with the Swedish Embassy in Moldova and “Hesed Yakov” welfare and cultural center of Beltsy took place. It was dedicated to Raoul Wallenberg and based on the exhibition rendered by the Embassy to JCC KEDEM yet in January. The program attracted over 120 people including local officials, teachers of history, students of universities and lyceums.

On March 19 youth club “Haverim” of the JCC celebrated its 7 birthday. During this period the club became very popular for young people who are looking for their Jewish roots, who like to gather and discuss interesting themes, play games, make sports, etc. Recently the club won another JDC grant for AJT (Active Jewish Teens) programs that will help realize new ideas and projects.

March 20 wasmarkedbythe 9 traditionalannual festival of Languages that is organized by Tolerance club of the JCC. The program was honored by the presence and speeches of the Ambassadors of Hungary and Turkey, representatives of Romanian and Swedish Embassies in Moldova and over 150 participants. 18 languages from Europe, Asia and Africa were presented in a flexible and free form including songs, literature and history of the countries and cultures. As said Tolerance club director Oxana Poleakova: “We want to build a bridge between various ethnic groups. Festival of Languages showed that the dialogue helps to better learn habits and traditions of every ethnicity and unite us through variety and diversity.

 The 4 competition of young reciters named after Yehiel Shraibman became another important event of the month. Over 30 participants, students of Jewish and non-Jewish lyceums of the city, read poems and prose by Yiddish writers of the past Markish, Saktsier, Mangher, Shraibman and even Ezekiel Nissim from Mumbai Jewish community in Hindi.
