The project became possible thanks to UJA Federation of Greater Toronto that sponsored KJJC equipping with modern computers and Internet connection. Unfortunately, few pensioners in Moldova can afford buying a PC and pay for Internet. That is why computer classes at KJJC give a unique and wonderful opportunity for them to correspond with their relatives abroad and find new friends.

Sasha, a 20-year old student of the local University math and programming faculty, leads the courses for the Kishinev group. “It is an absolutely new experience for me, he says. “I could never imagine people of my grandma’s age would take so keen interest in Internet. I am glad to be part of such an interesting program”

The groups from Toronto and Kishinev already exchanged with the e-mails and photos and some even established continuous correspondence.

“I started to learn computer and I like it a lot. I think it is a good way for me to acquire experience from my colleagues in other countries who have skills in teaching English among elderly persons.” said Mila, one of the Kishinev participants of the project.

“I am convinced that it is never late to study. I knew what do Internet and e-mail mean just a few months ago and now I am able to write letters to my friends in Toronto!” confessed Zina. “Thus, I got acquainted with Sofia who came to Canada from Moldova 12 years ago. We found a lot of common interests and themes for discussion.”
