Alexander Godysh recalls as though it were yesterday how his whole family would gather around a large table. His father, Isaac, would lead them in both sad and cheerful Yiddish songs...
These childhood memories are remarkably fresh for Alexander, an expert violinist, son of a cantor from Orgeev shtetl in Bessarabia, and founder of “Freilehs” ensemble (Rybnitsa). During the last four years, the ensemble has given concerts in the communities throughout Moldova and performed at international festivals, bringing to the younger generation Klezmer songs that would otherwise be forgotten. The gift of Jewish music has transcended the bounds of time: Roma, Alexander's grandson and Isaac's great grandson, often participates in rehearsals. Jewish song has found its way to eternity.
